Why the Cool Blues Show is the Lower Mainland's Hidden Gem
One event stands alone in a region filled with diverse music offerings – the Cool Blues Show at the Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival, presented by Lorval Developments!
While the Lower Mainland boasts numerous jazz and folk festivals and cultural celebrations, the Cool Blues Show, happening on Friday, July 25, 2025, is the only one dedicated to bringing blues lovers together for a full-scale, high-energy and unforgettable festival experience.
Unlike a single blues band playing at a club or concert, the Cool Blues Show blends SIX electrifying performances with a haven of delicious food trucks, unique beverage offerings at the Expedia Cruises (North Langley) Beer Garden and Angry Otter Whisky Tasting Lounge, a vibrant vendor market showcasing local creations, imaginative art installations, and the Macdonald Realty Games Zone!

Bywater Call is a seven-piece Southern soul, roots rock powerhouse band from Toronto that is taking the blues world by storm. The band has received multiple Independent Blues and Maple Blues Award nominations, including Entertainer, Electric Act, and Best Female Vocalist of 2024.The band tours extensively in Europe, with Dutch, German, and UK media naming Bywater Call's vocalist Meghan Parnell as one of the best female voices in blues and roots music today. Band members complement Meghan's voice, including Dave Barnes on guitar, Bruce McCarthy on drums, Mike Meusel on bass, John Kervin on keys, Stephen Dyte on trumpet, and Julian Nalli on tenor sax. "Canadian Bywater Call are a solid, top-down, cruising towards a distant horizon Blues Soul Band," said Marc Higgins of FATEA, UK. "Meghan Parnell's voice is infused with the velvet growl of Joan Osborne, Janis Joplin and Joe Cocker. Behind her, Bywater Call the band are a tight, funky monster locked to the beat… the music is muscular and full with a smile on its face and a spring in its step."

Steve Marriner, a Toronto-based JUNO-award winner, multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter and record producer, has been a force in the music world for years. Whether performing solo and in his own band, in Colin James’ band or as a member of the award-winning blues trio MonkeyJunk, his talent continues to impress fans and critics alike.
He first garnered attention in the Ottawa blues scene in his early teens as a prodigy blues harp (harmonica) player. He also plays baritone guitar, electric guitar, piano, Hammond organ, upright bass and electric bass. Since 2008, he has been the frontman, singer, one of two guitarists and harmonica player for the Canadian rock'n'roll-blues group MonkeyJunk. The band's album To Behold won the 2012 Juno Award for Blues Album of the Year.
Marriner has played a pivotal role in numerous other music projects. He has been a member of the Colin James’ band since 2016 performing around the world and recording on Colin’s albums. In 2004, he joined Canadian folk icon Harry Manx at the Chicago Blues Festival, marking the beginning of an extraordinary musical partnership. From 2004 to 2007, the duo toured the globe, captivating audiences in Australia, France, England, the United States, and Canada. Their collaboration culminated in the highly praised 2019 album Hellbound for Heaven. In recent years, Marriner has also showcased his versatility on guitar, bass, and keyboards as a key contributor to Samantha Martin and Delta Sugar.
He has won seven Maple Blues Awards for harmonica player of the year along with Acoustic Act of the Year (2022) and Male Vocalist of the Year (2009).

Known as one of Canada's most captivating roots and blues performers, Brandon Isaak, from Vancouver Island, joins our lineup of headliners where he’ll wow audiences alongside his band Rob Becker (bass), Chris Nordquist (drums) and Mike Kalanj (piano/keys).
Brandon is a multi-instrumentalist who writes heartfelt, uplifting, funny and spiritual songs. This Yukon-born artist takes his audiences on an emotional journey through the variety of his original songs. He has honed his craft over the past 37 years, playing in three continents and eight countries and 13 European tours.
Brandon has been nominated for many awards, including two JUNO awards, Maple Blues for Songwriter of the Year, Blues Act of the Year, producer of the Year, Guitar Player of the Year, and Album of the Year. The main festival is free, and kids 12 and under get into the Cool Blues Show for free when accompanied by a parent or guardian. We also have Cool Blues Show youth tickets for ages 12 to 18 for just $30!

Celebrate your love of whisky with our newest Cool Blues Show experience — the Angry Otter Liquor Whisky Tasting, featuring an all-Canadian line-up of premium whiskies.
Experience a guided tasting of premium Canadian whiskies, including a J.P. Wiser's Old Fashioned welcome cocktail, then we’ll dive into J.P. Wiser's 10-Year and 18-Year-Old Single Grain, as well as Lot No.40 Dark Oak (World's Best Rye!).
Each whisky flight includes a commemorative tasting glass and passport with tasting notes, and a masterclass hosted by Corby National Brand Education Specialist Colin MacDougall, who will guide you through the tastings and stories behind each pour—all in a comfortable lounge setting.
There will be two one-hour sessions: 5:15-6:15pm and 7:15-8:15pm. We highly recommend purchasing your ticket now, as we can’t guarantee that any passes will be available at the show. Note: You must have a ticket to the Cool Blues Show to attend the whisky tasting.
