Q1. Where does the Festival take place?

The Festival is held in the beautiful village of Fort Langley, B.C. Framed by the Fraser River, this idyllic location is the perfect place to get your fix of music, art, culture, culinary delights, and great outdoor adventures. Q2. Where will the music be at the Festival?

The Festival features two outdoor main stages: outside the Fort Langley Community Hall on Glover Road and on the Bedford Plaza boardwalk off Billy Brown Road. We also have busker performance stages located throughout the community. Basically, you’ll hear great live jazz music everywhere you go!

Q3. What is the ArtWalk all about?

The Fort Langley ArtWalk is a free one-day self-guided walking tour of Fort Langley art studios and galleries on Saturday, July 28. Come out and meet the artists that live and work in the Fort Langley community, enjoy original works of art and watch demonstrations.

Q4. What time is the Artwalk?

Several of the galleries will open at 10am. For more information on the galleries and studios visit our ArtWalk website page.

Q5. Where can I get a map of the ArtWalk?

Festival brochures include ArtWalk information and can be found at either of the two music stage areas: in front of the Fort Langley Community Hall and at the Bedford Plaza boardwalk stage.

Q6. How can I exhibit my art?

If you would like to exhibit in a local gallery participating in the ArtWalk, please keep in mind that each gallery operates independently and have varying procedures for reviewing potential artists. Please contact the individual galleries directly for more information. You can find local gallery listings on our website.

Q7. Where can I see a full Festival schedule?

The full music and art walk schedule will be available online and in the official program this summer.

Q8. Is the Festival free?

Sure is, except for the community dance which is a ticketed event.

Q9. How can I get a gig at the Festival?

This year, our line-up for the Festival has been selected for the two main stages. Busker opportunities are available for youth musicians and emerging talent (see below). Watch our website in early 2019 for opportunities to submit for next year’s Festival.

Q10. How can I become one of the Festival buskers?

Fort Langley will become a hub of busking talent during the festival with youth musicians and emerging talent playing throughout the community on Saturday, July 28. Jazz busker performance applications are available here. We’ll accept applications until June 30, 2018.

Q11. How much are tickets to the community dance and where can I buy them?

Tickets to the dance are $30 and you can buy them online here.

Q12. What is the jazz education workshop and jam all about?

If you’re a youth musician or emerging artist who is influenced by jazz music, you won’t want to miss this free education workshop and jazz jam. The workshop will be conducted by seasoned jazz educators and performers and will focus on jazz music as a business, jazz improvisation and other topics. There will be a jam session with professional musicians after the workshop for registered participants.

Q13. When and where is the jazz education workshop?

The jazz education workshop will be held on Sunday, July 29, 2019 from 12 noon-4:00pm at the Fort Langley Community Hall.

Q14. Is there a cost for the jazz education workshop and jam?

The workshop is free. Pre-registration is required. Be sure to register early as seats are limited!

Q15. Can I attend the workshop if I’m not a youth musician or emerging artist?

The workshop is intended for youth musicians and emerging artists who have a keen interest in jazz. Music educators and professional jazz musicians are also invited to register. Depending on available space, others may be able to attend. Fill-out a registration form and we’ll be in touch.

Q18. Where can I stay or camp?

Contact Tourism Langley for information about hotel, bed and breakfasts and camping & RV options.

Q19. What should I wear?

The Festival happens rain or shine, so wear weather-appropriate clothing: raincoats and jackets, etc., for a wet day, hats and sunscreen, etc., for a sunny day.

Q20. What kind of seating is there at the Festival?

You’re welcome to bring your own blanket or lawn chair. Tall chairs can be set up a certain distance from the stages. Low profile festival chairs and blankets are permitted closer to the stage.

Q21. Is there room for dancing?

Absolutely! A special no-seating area to one side of the stage is reserved for dancing. Those who don’t want to dance can stay in their seats without having their line of vision blocked.

Q22. Can I bring my dog?

Dogs on leash are permitted at the Festival. Owners must be in control of their dogs at all times.

Q23. Can I bring my own food?

Yes, by all means. Please place your recyclables in the appropriate recycling bins on site and minimize the amount of garbage you leave behind. Please note that controlled drugs and alcohol are not permitted at the Festival stage areas.

Q24. Can I buy food and beverages at the Festival?

There are many restaurants in Fort Langley—from fine dining, to pub food, to cafes and bistros—there’s something for everyone’s taste.

Q25. What else is there to do in Fort Langley?

Fort Langley offers a quaint, historic village with shops, restaurants, museums including the historic CN Rail Station and the Fort Langley National Historic Site. Surrounded by the Fraser River and lush agricultural countryside, it makes a great day trip from Vancouver especially when combined with visits to nearby Fraser Valley wineries and farms.

Q26. Can I bring my camera?

Yes, you may bring your camera, however professional audiotape or video recording of performances or the workshop is not permitted.

Q27. Are there ATMs available?

There is an ATM located across the street from the Fort Langley Community Hall at Coast Capital Savings.

Q28. Where are washrooms located?

Public washrooms, which are wheelchair accessible, are set up outside of the Fort Langley Community Hall and the Bedford Plaza stage areas.

Q29. Where can I purchase Festival merchandise?

A commemorative Festival t-shirt is available to buy during the Festival at the Fort Langley Community Hall Mainstage and the Bedford Plaza stage.

Q30. Am I permitted to smoke at the Festival?

The Fort Langley Community Hall Mainstage and Bedford Plaza stage are smoke/vaping free venues. Smoking/vaping is not permitted anywhere within the stage areas.

Q31. Is there a lost and found?

All items that have been found at Festival venues will be turned in to the Festival Information Centre located at the Fort Langley Community Hall. After July 1, contact the Festival via our contact form on our website for inquiries and pick up arrangements.

Q32. What are the dates for future Festivals?

Yes, the festival will be an annual event! The 2nd annual Fort Langley Jazz & Art Festival is scheduled for July 26-28, 2019.
