Date: Sunday, July 26,
Location: Fort Langley Community Hall Ballroom (upstairs)
Address: 9167 Glover Road
Cost: $25/person including all materials.
Space is limited: Only 12 spots available!

Enjoy a memorable journey into the enchanting world of Mehndi with visual artist, Baljeet Kaur. Whether you are new to Mehndi or looking to refine your skills, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to discover the magic of henna art.

This workshop will include informative discussions, creative exploration, and the opportunity to experiment with both traditional motifs and modern styles.

Baljeet will begin with an introduction to Mehndi art, followed by a demonstration of basic Mehndi designs on printed paper. Participants will practice these designs on the sheets provided, gaining confidence in their skills. Sample designs, including music themes, will be provided for participants to practice on paper.

Once comfortable, participants will apply their chosen designs on their own hands, with guidance and assistance from Baljeet as needed.

About the artist

Baljeet Kaur is a well-established visual artist based in the Fraser Valley/Metro Vancouver area, specializing in vibrant, figurative oil paintings and traditional henna (mehndi) art. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) from the Government College for Women in Chandigarh, India. Growing up, she was immersed in an artistic lineage; she is the daughter-in-law of legendary Sikh painter Kirpal Singh and the wife of noted Canadian-Punjabi artist Jarnail Singh.

While she is classically trained in oil on canvas, focusing heavily on portraits of Punjabi women and cultural heritage, she is also celebrated for her contemporary, colorful mixed-media collages and henna/mehndi artistry. She brings a blend of tradition and innovation as a Mehndi artist and experienced workshop facilitator, sharing the beauty and cultural significance of ancient Mehndi art form (creating beautiful designs and patterns using Mehndi that fade away over time, but leave a lasting impression of elegance and culture).
