5 Fun Facts About Angry Otter Liquor – And Why They’re Pouring Spirit into the Cool Blues Show

We’re excited to welcome Angry Otter Liquor as a brand-new sponsor for the 2025 Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival. And they're bringing more than just good vibes, they’re setting the mood at the Cool Blues Show with the exclusive Angry Otter Liquor Whisky Tasting Lounge, where guests can sip and swirl their way through a curated collection of premium J.P. Wisers spirits.

“This is our first year sponsoring—and we’re diving in like a blues guitarist into a 12-minute solo. We’re here for the music, the people and of course, the whisky.”

But before you raise a glass, get to know this spirited crew a little better with these five fun facts:

1. They’re Bringing the Spirit to the Blues—Literally
Angry Otter is known for their vast and curated selection of spirits at their 10,000 sq. ft. flagship store in Aldergrove (248th & Fraser Hwy). This year, they’re packing up the best of the shelf and setting the scene for a one-of-a-kind whisky experience in the VIP Lounge. Come sip, swirl, and maybe shed a tear (from the smoke, not the blues).

2. Their Theme Song? It’s in the Works...
Definitely something bluesy with a heavy bassline and a chorus that asks: “Why’s the Otter so angry?!” According to them, they’re still working on the verses, but they probably involve low whisky stock, underappreciated single malts, and people who say “bourbon and whisky are the same thing.”

3. They Can Pair a Whisky with Your Mood

Their staff can recommend a whisky based on your taste and your mood. Feeling mellow? They’ve got a smooth Speyside for that. Feeling funky? They’ll get you something peaty and wild. Feeling heartbroken? That calls for a double. What’s the weirdest customer request they’ve had? Someone once asked if they had a whisky that pairs well with Kraft Dinner. (They did. It’s called, “You deserve better,” and yes—it was a hit.)

4. They’ve Got the Blues in Their Blood
One of their team members used to be in radio, where he didn’t just play the blues—he lived it. He’s swapped stories with legends like Jim Byrnes, Colin Linden and Steve Dawson. His favourite blues album is “Confessin’ The Blues” from Little Walter. Now he’s swapped microphones for malts, but he still insists on calling sound checks before tastings.
