Featured Artists & Artwork

Janice Robertson (Artwork value $2,500)
“Camelia”

This painting is one of a series of floral pieces that I started several years ago. I try to capture the essence of the flowers, without getting into small details. The techniques involve working quickly and intuitively, so I never know exactly how the painting will turn out.

Janice comes from a long line of women artists and has been creating art professionally since 1989 from her Fort Langley studio. A signature member of prestigious organizations, including the Federation of Canadian Artists and Northwest Watercolor Society, she has earned numerous national and international awards. Her paintings, inspired by the forests, beaches, and gardens of the West Coast, are held in collections worldwide. Janice works in acrylic, watercolor, and oil, bringing the natural beauty of our region to life on canvas.

Susan J. Falk  (Artwork value $2,500)
“Wild Flower Garden, Delphiniums and Daisies”

My rambling gardens on my ten-acre farm in South Langley are always a source of inspiration. Creating an atmosphere for this painting required many layers of colour washes for the under painting.

A lifelong artist and experienced teacher, Susan has been a cornerstone of the Fraser Valley arts scene for decades. Her journey began in the film industry as a makeup artist before leading the program at John Casablancas Institute for 12 years. Now a full-time painter and part-time instructor, she has served on the Fort Gallery board and was a member on the Langley Centennial Museum Advisory Committee. Her collaborative environmental work earned her an Environmental Hero award from the Township of Langley. In 2015, she held a solo exhibition in Kyoto, Japan, and was an Artist in Residence at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts in 2020.

Richard McDiarmid  (Artwork value $1,500)
"All Jazzed Up"

One of many works inspired by both visual and music/audible experiences on the street and on stage at the Fort Langley Jazz and Art Festival. The painting process involves improvisation as well as working with the reference materials chosen. My intention is to evoke a sense of sound, as well as a response to the visual elements

Richard's dynamic artwork has become synonymous with the Fort Langley Jazz & Arts Festival, capturing the very soul of jazz through his vibrant and energetic style. His festival artwork and public art pieces have become beloved fixtures in our community, embodying the spirit and rhythm that make our festival special. Richard's award-winning paintings have been exhibited in solo and group shows, including the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, the Federation of Canadian Artists, the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS), and the Calgary Stampede Artists Studios.
